Reasons for the Movement

The Feminist Movement simply began because women became fed up with being inferior to men. They had no say in anything, were not as trusted with important tasks as men, and they were turned down from jobs just for being a woman. Some may think they had life great because of the general idea of how a woman was to be treated, like royalty. However, despite these ideas that was not reality. Most were not treated these ways and felt as if they were just treated as objects that were all the same. In the text A Raisin in the Sun, by Lorraine Hansberry, the character named Beneatha was afraid of the idea of fitting this stereotypical idea of a woman, causing her to try everything to break out of it. Women such as her who put their foot down and tried to earn their respect and rights by doing things such as getting an important job, such as being a doctor, or just fighting back politically were those who really pushed the Feminist Movement forward. By fighting back and setting the example, many more women soon joined in the struggle for equality.
